I didn't think it would be that different without Draco. Now I realize what a buffer he'd been between the others and I. They would look to him for the quintessential Slytherin words and actions. I was left to be on my own, something I rather prefer to the alternative of being the center of attention.

I have not changed any of my actions, my reading or scheduled meals. And yet, even now as they all studiously ignore me, I feel the silence as oppressive instead of comforting. Am I expected to act a certain way, be a certain way?

I have never had expectations before. It is unnerving.

That is not true. I have had expectations, but never before have I been unaware of the consequences of not fulfilling them. A failing grade they cannot give me; a beating they would not.

I hope.

June, perhaps, does not ignore me, but as the only person I have witnessed interacting with Snape on a amiacable basis, I wish her the best of luck for it and try not to intrude. I would not lose her ... friendship ... if I had a choice in it. But perhaps it was only formed of familiar living situations.

We will see, I suppose.

At the very least Snape will not have to worry about Kebby getting into his lab or belongings, despite how she may have wanted to.

He will most likely be happy to see me go.

The unwanted Slytherin student.

The reason for wasting magic and space.

...

The one who isn't Draco Malfoy. How many times shall I be punished for not being a Malfoy?

Appropriate that my name is Nott -- for I never Am something. Stop your pity party! Do you expect other people to treat you like Draco Malfoy, the princeling of Slytherins?

...no. I expect them to treat me like Theodore Nott: bookish, quiet, useless Slytherin generally disregarded by everyone.

Very well.

Sir,

I will be moving into Pansy Parkinson's flat. Horrible things that I have to handle with silk gloves to block harmful magic to the boxes of my mother's clothing and jewelrey so fine I can't handle it without the tiny golden links falling apart in my fingers.

...things that I can't touch without breaking and things that I can't touch without breaking me. Sounds familiar.

Most house-elves will stay with the Manor. Kebby and Honn, the two that have raised me and know... far too much about my family, will go with me. To wherever. They're honorable and faithful. The rest?

Well, let's say that perhaps a family that doesn't practice Unforgivables on them would be best.

<strike>Or use them like penny spells that can be scattered around the house, cursing whoever angers him the most </strike>

Most of the furniture will also stay.

Private to self.

Come on, Nott.

As if there was anyone who had even the vaugest remote interest in what you had to say.

Or as if you could reinterperate the definition of the word 'private' to include other people!

Private, adjective.

1. Secluded from the sight, presence, or intrusion of others: a private hideaway; or Designed or intended for one's exclusive use: a private room.

2. Of or confined to the individual; personal: a private joke; private opinions.
Undertaken on an individual basis: private studies; private research.
Of, relating to, or receiving special hospital services and privileges: a private patient.

3.Not available for public use, control, or participation: a private club; a private party.

Nowhere does it say: private: a thing to be shared.

...

Although the first definition sounds awfully familiar.

But the reason for this, my first journal entry. I need somewhere to think this out, and this is my recourse.

Professor Snape... not guilty??

Merlin, what do I think?

Reason, first and foremost.

1.(a) I admire Professor Snape; I feel he is a man who understands the desire to stand apart from most mindless drones and mooncalves that populate this world.

1.(b) I do (did?) not admire his seemingly staunch support of a half-blood madman.

Since (b) has changed, does that mean that (a) is more true?

Perhaps.

2. Other things I have found fault with in our Head of House:
~ (a)Excessive pandering to the Malfoys.
~ (b)Disregard of "weaker" purebloods like myself.
~ (c)Distain for physical appearances

Things that have (possibly) no basis on his supposed "spy" status:

(c) Distain for physical appearances.

..
..
..
..

This is so much harder than I'd thought.

..
..
..

Forget lists for now. There's one thing that I know for sure:

Bollocks to the Ministry.
